DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) -- An Alabama man is charged with drug trafficking after sheriff's deputies say they found 16 pounds of marijuana in his SUV when they tried to pull him over for a traffic ticket.
Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox says the drug bust Thursday prevented drug dealers from selling the marijuana in the community.
Reports say 33-year-old Vantwain Lashun Stokes tried to flee when deputies attempted to stop him for a traffic violation on Highway 431. Deputies managed to catch Stokes and noticed a strong odor in his car. Authorities say they found a duffel bag stuffed with marijuana in the cargo section of the vehicle.
Stokes was jailed on $251,000 bond in Henry County. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
