Ala. Researcher Finds Wasp to Help Fight Kudzu Bug

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- A researcher with the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service says she has discovered a local egg-parasitic wasp that she believes could be the answer for controlling the pesky kudzu bug.

The kudzu bug has wreaked havoc on the soybean crop in the Southeast for some time. Xing Ping Hu says the wasp she discovered could significantly reduce the number of kudzu bugs. Hu says the discovery of the parasitic wasp could be a "game changer" in the fight against the kudzu bug.

The wasp deposits its eggs inside the eggs of the kudzu bug. Hu says this could significantly reduce the population of kudzu bugs in soybean fields.

This comes shortly after researchers discovered a bug that preys on adult kudzu bugs adding another natural enemy to help fight the bugs.
