PELHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is getting a first-hand look at a program to improve math and science instruction.

Bentley will be in suburban Birmingham on Wednesday to visit a summer institute put on by the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative. The program aims to improve students' skills in science and math.

Teachers from various school systems are attending training sessions at Oak Mountain High School, and the governor will visit some of the classrooms. He'll also discuss the program with the media.

The training session is conducted jointly by programs linked to the University of Montevallo and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
