VANCE, Ala. (AP) -- An Alabama farm that's grown Christmas trees for 22 years is having a bittersweet holiday season.
The Tuscaloosa News reports that Billy and Katie Gandy are retiring from the business after Christmas this year. They founded Gandy Christmas Tree Farm in Vance in 1990 and sold their first trees four years later.
Billy Gandy, now 71 years old, says he believes tree farming has added years to his life. But it's a tough business and the couple has decided to sell their remaining trees this year and retire.
The Gandys had been selling about 500 trees every Christmas season until they decided to scale back five years ago.
The husband and wife farmers say they may ease into growing a different crop, perhaps blueberries.
