Aggravated Battery Charge on Elderly Man

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with attacking
an elderly person with a wooden club and then stealing his belongings. 57-year old John Filbin, no known address, is charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 or older and robbery with a weapon.

The 69-year old victim says he was in the area of Martin Luther King Jr.
Boulevard and Hurlburt Field Road August 4th when Filbin started hitting
him in the head, arms and legs with a wooden club. Filbin then took the
victim’s wallet, bicycle with attached trailer, and his walking cane.
When Filbin was leaving, he approached the victim again and struck him in the head with the club. The victim says he’s known Filbin for approximately three years and was able to identify him as the suspect.
The victim was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and released.
