Addiction Treatment Neglected in U.S.

A new study finds that many Americans who suffer from addictions to drugs, alcohol and nicotine are not being treated.

In comparison, most people with high blood pressure or diabetes do get treatment.

The study was done by researchers at the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University.

They found that only about one in 10 people who need treatment for addiction to drugs and alcohol receive it.

While seven out of 10 people with medical conditions are treated.

Forty million Americans over the age of 12 suffer from addiction.
