AL Senate Committee Passes Bill Letting Schools Opt Out Of Common Core

An Alabama Senate committee passes a bill to let local school systems opt out of Common Core.

The bill's sponsor, Senator Scott Beason says local school systems should be able to decide what's best for their students.

The senate education committee voted 4 to 2 this morning to pass the measure.

However, Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh says he doesn't think the bill will ultimately pass.

Marsh is a co-sponsor of the bill.

Yesterday, Wiregrass school superintendents signed a petition to *keep* the common core standards.

They say if schools across the state have different goals, it will be impossible to determine which strategies are successful.
