Many homes in the Wiregrass are decked out this time of year, in Christmas décor. However, a single tree in Dothan might have the biggest message. It is decorated with hand-made angel ornaments, each with the name of a military member who died this year.
“It's a good way to help remember everybody and whoever sees it, this is why we're here,” said Bronwen Redding, who decorated the tree.
Redding and her husband are in the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club. An old friend inspired her display and one and a half years ago, he died from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
She checks up on our military every few days, adding names to her tree all too often.
Redding said, “But, when I looked back at 2011, there were nowhere near as many as there were then.”
She said keeping their memory alive, reminds people of what the season represents.
“It’s not Christmas, it's Christ,” said Redding. “And these people have given our lives to help save us to live here.”
Redding hopes that message sticks.
