Outside Help

While hundreds of thousands of residents are fleeing Florida, a few people will be traveling in the opposite direction - straight into the heart of the storm.

Thousands of volunteers and businesses in Georgia and Alabama are ready to move in to help repair the potential devastation that will be left behind by Hurricane Frances when it hits Florida.

Many others are also bracing for the worst, including the Red Cross, Georgia emergency officials and phone repair specialists.

The Red Cross already has 150 emergency response vehicles in the
Florida area and five trailers of supplies in Tampa, said Bob Howard, who is handling public affairs for the Red Cross.

Another thousand volunteers are gathering in Atlanta and will be dispatched after Frances makes landfall. They'll help families set up temporary shelters, get clothing and form recovery plans.
