A Barbour County man who was arrested by angry citizens after he robbed an elderly storeowner at gunpoint was convicted of the crime in Abbeville.
Twenty-three-year-old Johnny James Hill of Eufaula could be sentenced to life behind bars.
Prosecutors contended Hill and two other men robbed Bob Knowles' Country Store in the White Oak Community of Henry County three years ago.
Hill was allegedly trying to get away when a man who lived next door to the business shot him in the leg.
Jurors deliberated almost four hours Wednesday before finding Hill guilty. One co-defendant in the case has already pled guilty; the other is still waiting to stand trial.
Hill is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 1.
