Samson Water and Sewer Usage Increases

Officials in one Wiregrass town say they can no longer subsidize low service rates for citizens.

Samson Mayor Clay King has proposed a 2-dollar minimum usage increase for water and sewer.

The city is upgrading its sewage treatment plant.

In addition, Samson is responsible for paying off a loan used to modernize the water works system.

The town has approximately 1,100 water and sewer customers.

City officials say without a price hike the budget would suffer around a $70,000 loss.

City Commissioners will be asked to approve the fee increase Friday in a special meeting.
