Houston County Democrats Vote Bentley
The public battle between Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Bradley Byrne and the Alabama Education Association has been going on for some time now. Byrne’s campaign alleged he was the target of lies and blames A.E.A members for encouraging democrats to switch sides in the run-off election and support Bentley.

A statement issued by the Alabama G.O.P says they see no evidence of large numbers of Democrats voting on the Republican ticket in Tuesday’s gubernatorial run off election between Dr. Robert Bentley and Bradley Byrne.

Jennifer Adams, chair of the Houston County Democratic Party says Democrats voted in response to the feud between Byrne and the A.E.A.

"Well to be honest, Bradley Byrne made it his personal mission to attack Paul Hubbard and the A.E.A and when he began making statements like A.E.A members being corrupt and incompetent, a lot of those people took it personally. I really definitely feel they did do that and they went out and voted for Bentley to show Bradley Bryne about how mad they were at what he had said to them or concerning them," remarked Adams

Houston County Chief Election Official Probate Judge Luke Cooley says many Democrats did vote Republican in the run off.

"There were some Democrats who actually came in, signed the Democratic poll list and said, ‘but I want the blue ballot’, so they wanted to vote in that governor’s race," said Judge Cooley.

During the June 1st primary election, Bradley Byrne received 3500 votes. On Tuesday, he received more than 4100 votes in Houston County.

Dr. Robert Bentley received 3800 votes in the primary and more than 7200 in the run-off nearly doubling his previous numbers in the county.
