A Barbour County man who was arrested by angry citizens after he robbed an elderly storeowner at gunpoint went on trial Monday in Abbeville.
Twenty-three-year-old Johnny James Hill of Eufaula faces up to life behind bars if he's convicted.
Prosecutors contend Hill and two other men robbed Bob Knowles' Country Store in the White Oak Community of Henry County three years ago.
Hill was allegedly trying to get away when a man who lived next door to the business shot him in the leg.
One suspect in the case has pled guilty to the crime and the other is still waiting to stand trial.
Hill is free on a $100,000 bond.
