City Releases 2008 Budget

The 2008 budget for the city of Dothan was unveiled for the first time this morning, and city officials are planning to spend an additional 40 million dollars this year, as opposed to 2007.

So far this year, the city has collected an additional 7.9 million dollars from the recent one cent sales tax hike, more than what was expected before the year's end.

That money along with other sales tax money will be used in the coming year for operating expenses and to conduct projects that the city has been unable to do for quite some time.

Dothan City Manager Mike West says, "Whether it be the replacement of equipment and vehicles, whether it be bridge replacement, employee salary issues as well as building maintenance and functions, obviously that has made a significant impact."

We'll have more on the new budget tonight on News 4.
