Man who Fled Dothan Courtroom Back in Custody

Cordell Fitzgerald Poke was on the run after his trail last Wednesday, but he is back behind bars.

Gloria Key lives near downtown Dothan and walks nearly everywhere she goes.

She says it gets scary sometimes, especially recently, when she knew an armed robber was on the loose.

That convicted robber was 21-year old Cordell Fitzgerald Poke.

He had escaped from the Houston County Courthouse after jurors convicted him with three felony counts of armed robbery.

Sunday, sheriff's deputies have put Poke back behind bars.

"I feel much better. Much, much better because there’s a lot of things’ going on, over on this side of town," says Key.

After receiving a tip on Poke's location, detectives went into the house questioned those inside about Poke's location.

That's when investigators say Poke tried to escape from the back.

He was brought down with a tazer.

"It's good that we got him back. We rand down a lot of leads trying to relocate him. We stayed behind him pretty much, until last night, we ended up catching up with him," says Chief Deputy Don Valenza, Houston County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office leaders say they will be learning from this experience.

Changes are set to come to their inmate transfer procedures. To make sure they and people like Gloria don't have to worry about another escapee on the streets.

Poke made his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
