A former Houston County deputy who admitted stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise will get a second chance to withdraw his guilty plea next week.
Last November, Rickey Ducker admitted stealing nearly $20,000 worth of hunting and fishing equipment from a sporting goods store where he worked part-time.
Judge Lawson Little handed down a maximum sentence of 20-years in prison.
Ducker later tried to withdraw his guilty plea, but his attorney withdrew from the case just minutes before a hearing.
As a result Ducker asked for another lawyer, but that request was denied and Ducker dropped his motion to change his plea.
The Alabama Court of Criminal appeals ruled that Ducker should have been represented by legal counsel and ordered another hearing.
That hearing is set for Monday at the Houston County Courthouse.
