One of the wiregrass' longtime radio personalities has lost his battle with cancer. Charlie Gilmore passed away Tuesday in Tennessee at the age of 73.
For 19 years Gilmore entertained listeners in the Wiregrass with his show on WTVY FM.
He also sang with his own group, Charlie Gilmore and the Rangers. Before that Gilmore spent eight years as sheriff of Barbour County.
Listeners say Gilmore had one of the most recognizable and beautiful singing and speaking voices in the Wiregrass.
Charlie Gilmore will be laid to rest Friday. His funeral is at 3 o'clock at Sardis Baptist Church in Eufaula.
