The director of the Wiregrass Museum of Art has turned in her resignation.
Esther Hockett has served as the executive director for the past two years.
Hockett submitted her resignation to the museum's board of directors Tuesday, citing personal reasons as an explanation for her departure.
Hockett says the board is interested in re-organizing many of the programs and operations at the museum. She says her family responsibilities would not allow her to devote the amount of time necessary.
During her tenure, Hockett initiated the first Saturday program and oversaw the completion of the Conference Center at the museum.
Her resignation is effective immediately although she will be helping make the transition through August.
No word on when the museum board will begin a search for Hockett's replacement.
