The trial began Monday in Dothan for a man arrested in a deadly domestic dispute.
Forty-two-year-old Eugene Oliver Andrews is charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife. Forty-three-year-old Debra Andrews was killed during an argument at the couple's apartment on Denton Road in August of 2000.
Andrews claims his wife shot him before turning the gun on herself. He was wounded in the arm.
Police contend Andrews had his arm around his wife's throat when he shot her in the head.
Prosecutors will use DNA evidence and try to prove the same bullet that killed the woman also struck the defendant.
Andrews is free on a $100,000 bond. The case should go to the jury later this week.
