It's a move that has "ruffled some feathers" for retailers in Downtown Enterprise. Beginning next Monday, Aug. traffic will be temporarily restricted.
Driving and parking will be difficult during the weeklong closure.
City officials say it's necessary in order to complete the final phase of a one million dollar downtown renovation project. Work crews will be stamping asphalt around the 85-year-old boll weevil monument. In order for that to take place, engineers say detours will be in place from Aug. 23 through Aug. 28.
Mayor Kenneth Boswell apologizes for the inconvenience to businesses and visitors, but it's the only way the project can be completed.
Mayor Boswell and city officials are met with downtown merchants Thursday night to explain how the detours and delays are necessary to complete the renovation project.
