City workers will try to determine what caused a minor explosion that left Dothan's Municipal Complex without power for a few hours Monday afternoon.

City Utilities Superintendent Jimmy Kilgore says an underground power cable running between police headquarters and the Civic Center shorted out.

It caused a small explosion, which blew a nearby manhole cover out of the street.

A few nearby homes and businesses were affected by the outage. Utility workers were able to re-route power and restore electricity within a few hours.
