DUI Fatalities Up 3 Percent

A rise in drunk-driving related deaths in Alabama is prompting law enforcement officials across the state and in the Wiregrass to be vigilant of people driving impaired.

A report issued by officials with the U.S. Department of Transportation shows a 3 percent increase in the number of drunk-driving deaths across the state of alabama, in the past year.

In Dothan, police are targeting drunk drivers to try and lower those statistics, especially during Labor Day weekend.

"There will just be an increase in traffic during the Labor Day weekend; a lot of people will be out drinking and alot of them will be caught," said Capt. Larry Draughon of Dothan Police Dept.

Officials are urging anyone who drinks to think twice before getting behind the wheel.
