The Enterprise Police Department has recently been notified of an attempted fraud at a local business.
Someone claiming to represent the Police Chief Magazine advised the business its invoice was past due for advertisement and asked for immediate payment.
They provided an address in Houston, Texas. The actual Police Chief Magazine is based in Alexandria, Virginia.
When business owners request a copy of the advertisement from the bogus magazine, they receive a faxed copy of a page from the real Police Chief Magazine that has been altered.
It features the victim's company business card or advertisement from the phone book.
Chief Lolley says if you are contacted with a similar request, you should call your local law enforcement agency.
