PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - The man who authorities say died after diving at an intentionally created artificial reef off Pensacola still has not been identified.
The Coast Guard says the 39-year-old died hours after he was taken to the hospital on Saturday.
The decommissioned aircraft carrier Oriskany was sunk 24 miles southeast of Pensacola in the Gulf of Mexico in 2006 and attracts divers from across the globe.
The Coast Guard says the man surfaced from a dive and was having difficulty breathing. He also struggled to maintain consciousness.
The man appeared to be suffering from symptoms of decompression sickness, which describes a variety of symptoms that occur when someone experiences a reduction in body pressure.
