It's been almost four months since a massive earthquake devastated Haiti.

This week, students across Dothan have been collecting donations to ensure the victims are not forgotten.

These donations are being packed up to be shipped out to Haiti.

“Haiti still needs lots of help,” said Dr. Paul Caballero

Dr. Paul Caballero has been to Haiti in the aftermath of the 7.0 magnitude quake.

“When I went there were still bodies of dead people all over the place,”

“It was actually pretty sad and I felt bad for them and I wish I could go down there and help them,” said elementary school student J.P. Wood.

Students from 17 Dothan schools have been donating goods since Monday.

“They had the earthquake and most of them are now homeless and they don't have very much food anymore,” added Wood

The response has been overwhelming.

“We went to Dothan High for example and they had over 1,400 items just that one school,” said Dr. Caballero.

“We just left Honeysuckle Middle School, they turned in 1,100 bottles of water,” said Rosalind James, the youth involvement coordinator with Yes We Can! Dothan.

The Yes We Can! youth involvement committee came up with the citywide drive idea.

“They are reaching not only beyond county lines, or the state lines, they are reaching all the way to Haiti,” added Dr. Caballero.

The donations are going directly to 200 Haitian orphans.

“Most of their parents had either died or too handicapped after the earthquake to take care of them. In Haiti these children are lucky if they eat twice a week,” said James.

Organizers say they couldn't be happier with the student’s efforts.

“I am just so proud of these young people because they have just really given from their heart,” commented James.

They still need to raise money to actually ship the goods to Haiti
