A federal judge has thrown out most of former Gov. Don Siegelman's defense team. U.S. District Judge UW Clemon ruled that Doug Jones and his law firm, Whatley Drake, can't represent Siegelman because Jones is a former federal prosecutor who was involved in the early stages of Alabama's government corruption investigation.
Federal prosecutors had challenged all of Siegelman's legal team.
Clemon said Jones' participation in the original case was not substantial, but prosecution of one of Siegelman's co-defendants, Phillip Bobo, could not have gone forward without Jones' approval.
Another of Siegelman's attorneys, Bobby Segall of Montgomery, was also challenged, but the judge approved Segall's participation last week.
