World's Largest Peanut Boil

A bag of boiled peanuts gets supersized every Labor Day weekend in Luverne.

The peanut boil is sponsored by the Crenshaw County Shrine Club to raise money for charity. They begin with 28,000 pounds of freshly plowed peanuts, 1,900 pounds of salt and lots of boiling hot water.

Alabama and Georgia, which are major peanut producers, have lots of celebrations built around the peanut, but peanut associations in both states said Luverne has the only one focusing solely on boiled peanuts.
