Crenshaw Murder Update

The funeral for six members of a Crenshaw County family who were shot to death will be held Wednesday at the Luverne High School gymnasium.

Coleman Ball, a family spokesman, said the 3:30 p.m. service at the school is being planned because of the large crowd expected. Burial will follow at Little Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, located near the family's rural home in Rutledge.

Two of the victims attended Luverne High School and one graduated last spring.

Investigators have charged 22 year old Wesley Devone Harris with six counts of capital murder in the deaths of the Crenshaw County family. The announcement came late Friday afternoon.

16-year-old girl Janice Denise Ball is not considered a suspect in the shootings, but investigators do consider her a witness. Janice Ball and her one-and-a-half year old daughter are currently being cared for by the Department of Human Resources.

The couple and their baby surrendered to officers Thursday night at a prearranged location north of Luverne after officers talked throughout the day with members of Harris's family.

Authorities still won't comment publicly about a motive or exactly when the murders might have happened.

Lieutenant Lloyd Arrington of the ABI said investigators have recovered some weapons, but they do not know if they were the weapons used in the killings.
