Alabama Power Set Record for Electricity Output

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The oppressive heat and the high demand for electricity set a power generating record for Alabama Power Company on Monday.

Utility spokesman Michael Sznajderman said the new standard was set when 11-thousand-994 megawatts was generated as the average temperature across the state hovered at the 100 degree mark.

The previous record was set last August when the company generated 11,933 megawatts.

Sznajderman said the utility's 24 plants are having no trouble generating electricity, despite the lingering drought that has reduced hydroelectric power.
