Jury Convicts Man for 2005 Murder, Kidnap Spree

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - A Phenix City man awaits a jury's recommended sentence after he was convicted of three counts each of capital murder and kidnapping.

A Russell County jury Monday found 34-year-old Brent Martin guilty in the September 2005 slayings of his brother-in-law, 21 year old Johnnie Randolph the Third, and 18 year old Darryl Maurice Carrillo. The two were shot to death in September 2005 in Phenix City.

The kidnapping offenses involved the abductions of three women on the same day.

Jurors will begin hearing the sentencing phase Wednesday and can either recommend a death sentence or life in prison without parole.

Martin is already serving two life terms for attempted murder and escape from the Russell County Jail that left a corrections officer wounded in January 2006.
