One financially strapped law enforcement agency in the Wiregrass may soon cut back on serving legal documents.
With a "cut" in his department’s overtime pay, Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward told county commissioners “he simply doesn't have the funds.”
Each year deputies serve summons, small claims matters and other legal papers to homes and businesses across the county. It cost thousands of dollars in fuel and man-hours to make those deliveries.
As a possible solution, Sheriff Ward would like the county to raise the filing cost.
The county commission has not yet taken action on Sheriff Ward's request to raise the filing fees.
