MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Current and former employees of Alabama
State University have been filing a string of lawsuits with
allegations of harassment, discrimination and wrongful termination.
The Montgomery Advertiser reports Sunday that four such suits
have been filed against the university in the last five months.
Kenneth Thomas, legal counsel for the university, said the
lawsuits are the work of former ASU trustee Joe L. Reed and the
university considers all the claims to be frivolous.
The paper said several unsuccessful attempts were made to speak
directly with Reed.
One employee says he was fired after informing school officials
of his intentions to report misuse of grant money.
Two former employees and one current employee filed a suit in
federal court this month alleging they were subjected to racial and
sexual harassment.
