OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - The Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Opelika is moving to another facility in nearby West Point, Georgia. A company executive said the plant will close on October 1st after almost 70 years in the east Alabama city.
All 43 employees at the Opelika operation will be transferred to the West Point plant. The distance between the two cities is approximately 18 miles.
Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller said since the facility falls under the Atlanta wage structure, employees are expected to get a substantial raise in pay.
