A confessed killer from Cottonwood is hospitalized in stable condition, after suffering a massive stroke.
Frank Bass was charged with murdering his wife last year.
Defense Attorney Eric Davis says Bass had the stroke last week.
The 68-year-old suspect is permanently paralyzed on one side, unable to speak and on a feeding tube.
Bass was arrested in February of last year after his wife's body was found in their mobile home near Cottonwood.
Investigators say the woman was shot to death and she had apparently been dead for several days. Bass later confessed to the crime.
Doctors now say they've done all they can for Bass at the hospital, but Sheriff Lamar Glover says the confessed killer is in no condition to return to jail.
Houston County taxpayers will have to pay for the suspect's hospital bill, but Medicaid and Medicare should cover his stay in a nursing home.
