Gov. Bob Riley said two Alabama companies soon will undergo major expansion projects.
Monday morning, the Governor joined Joe Malugen, CEO of Movie Gallery, to announce the video-rental company's plans to expand and build a new distribution center. Movie Gallery executives said the 190,000 square foot facility will be located on an 18 acre site in the city's Westgate Industrial Park. The center will serve some of the company's 2,300 video stores. Seventy-four new workers will be hired once the expansion is completed.
Riley also announced that Mando Corporation, an automotive parts supplier, will relocate its headquarters to Opelika from Detroit.
Mando officials said they will add 175,000 square feet to a $30 million facility that was completed last month. Riley said the expansion project will cost an additional $35 million and will be completed in the spring of 2005.
Mando manufactures brake corner modules, suspension modules and steering systems at its Opelika plant. The company said it expects to add 170 news jobs to its current work force of 150.
