Gov. Don Siegelman said he will fight a plan by the Poarch Creek Indians to build a $100 million gaming center complex in Wetumpka.
But Tribal Chief Eddie Tullis, who announced the project last Friday, insists the gaming center is not a casino.
The complex would be built on 50 acres of tribal land between U.S. 231 and the Coosa River, with about 1,000 high-stakes video gaming machines and a 200-room motel. A riverboat landing would allow boat travel from Montgomery.
The Poarch Creeks already operate two gaming establishments -- one in Wetumpka, which opened last November and a bingo operation near Atmore.
