You may spot a number of out-of-state tags as spring breakers make their way through the Wiregrass headed to the beach.

While extra cars mean more potential for accidents, it also means added business for those along the route.

So far this spring break season the Enterprise police haven't noticed any major traffic problems in the area but they need your help to keep it that way.

“We advise people to use caution watch their speed and be extra careful at intersections, because a lot of people are not familiar with the intersections around here so just be extra cautious because of the spring breakers,” says Enterprise Police Captain Mike Lolley.

Spring breakers are taking Highway 167 South to the beach and are hitting gas stations and restaurants for pit stops.

While some businesses on the route noted only a slight increase or no extra business, last week Mellow Mushroom marked its second highest grossing week since they opened 5 years ago.

But manager David Lassiter isn't convinced it's solely because of spring breakers stopping by for a pizza.

“I think it has some to do with a little bit of everything, a little bit of people getting their tax returns back and everything and people on break and all that so I think all that adds up to a busy week for us,” says Lassiter.

Many believe that once Highway 167 is four-laned from Troy to the coast it will benefit Enterprise in two ways.

“It would attract more traffic to that area bringing it through this area heading to Panama City Beach and also the beaches west of there as well, so it will be a great benefit to our area commercially and from a safety standpoint,” says Enterprise Chamber of Commerce President Phil Thomas.

City leaders say you can expect to start seeing 2 miles of work on 167 near Enterprise in 2011.
