The employees of New Brockton got a health insurance scare this week.

A letter from the State Employee’s Health Insurance Board told them that the Town of New Brockton had not paid their share in January, February or March and if it wasn't paid by the 18th their coverage would be canceled and they would not be eligible again for 2 years.

It also said the employees would have to pay the health costs from those months out of pocket.

Mayor Lenwood Herron tells us the bills weren't paid because of confusion while transitioning between town clerks, but showed us checks and receipts where they have now been paid.

"The health insurance benefits have been paid in full and there's no lapse in coverage for town employees with the Alabama State Health Insurance Board,” says Herron.

He says proof of payment is available at town hall if there are any questions.
