Recreational mud riders may find themselves in court.

Coffee County leaders say recreational mud riding is causing a great deal of damage to some of the county's dirt roads.

District 1 Commissioner Dean Smith showed us one of the spots where he says teenagers are causing major financial damage.

He says taxpayers should not have to pay to fix roads that a handful of people are destroying just for recreation.

So he's been working with the sheriff to try and put a stop to it.

“When we get a complaint on any of the dirt roads he'll go investigate it and if he can find the persons he'll get their name and numbers and he'll turn that into the county and we'll actually start civil suit and start civil action and try to make them pay for the damage they've done,” says Commissioner Smith.

They're hoping these actions will keep further damage from occurring.
