The Coffee County Baptist Association is in the process of building a disaster relief shelter in the event of a tornado, hurricane, or some other natural disaster.
The building is adjacent to the association's office on Highway 84 in New Brockton.
Much of the 40-by-60 foot building is being constructed with volunteer labor and materials from area churches.
Besides a shelter, the facility will be used for religious and government meetings.
"We hope that it can be used as a shelter in times of disaster. It’ll be equipped with showers and it can be used by area churches for whatever purpose they may need to might have," said Kaye Clark of Coffee Co. Baptist Association.
The building construction coincides with the 100th Anniversary meeting of the Coffee County Baptist Association.
