Wal-Mart Opens Doors in Eufaula
The grand opening of a new Wal-Mart in Eufaula had many people rushing through its doors Wednesday. And many in the area are hoping it's that same rush that will push up revenue.

From the typical checkout, to the less conventional greeting, guests of the new Wal-Mart in Eufaula were welcomed with a new shine on things.
(Michael) "I think we're going to bring just a lot to the economy area because of the fact that we have the groceries and the product, expanded merchandise and bring people from the outskirts and bring people actually into Eufaula," says Store Manager, Michael Reed.
The people Reed is talking about are those like Terry Potter. He lives in Abbeville, but he is spending his money in Eufaula.
As Potter says, “They've needed a place like this for a long time, we had the little Wal-Mart up there and it was all right but it just doesn't compare to this.”
What makes this store different from others, besides being new, is that it uses cost-effective lighting, along with monitors for its products. It even goes all the way down to the floor, using less cleaning products and making it more eco-friendly.
One hundred forty people have been employed along with the new store opening.
And with more options, residents say they expect to see more people flowing into their city.
“I haven't seen this many people in Eufaula in the six years that we have lived here.....I think it's going to generate a lot of tax revenue,” says Lee Hartunge.
And that brings some good news to the city. It also brings people like Terry Potter, who like their new options.
Store Manager, Michael Reed says that the area could see revenue jump as much as 20 per cent with the new store.
