The city of Dothan continues to look at options for its long term water needs.

City Manager Mike West asked his staff to put together a report on water usage in the city and ideas on additional resources.

Poly Engineering is going to conduct a long term water use study.

An attorney will look into legal issues and discuss with the Choc Pea water authority about the possibility of pulling water out of the Chattahoochee.

"A lot of us will not be here in the future, but we have to take the steps right now to make sure we are prepared for tomorrow because you have to have water for people to live, we have to have water to promote business and industry and we do not want any of the infrastructure needs like that to stop the growth of this community" said West.

If the city moves forward with plans to pull water from the Chattahoochee River, it would need to spend an estimated 40 million dollars on a water treatment plant.
