Troy University broke ground on a new multimillion dollar facility they hope can be a lasting symbol of progress for the university.
School officials say the new Troy arena will be an epicenter for the university student activities. The area will seat 5,600 people and will be used for basketball games, concerts, ceremonies and as focal point for basketball recruiting.
"Not only do we need a new venue for our athletics program the commencement programs the concerts the other student gatherings where there are large numbers of students need to congregate this facility will provide that venue," said Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor of Troy University.
The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2011.
