Today's legislative decision could mean the end for Country Crossing in Houston County.

Ronnie Gilley and staff watched online Wednesday as the state senate voted down the bingo bill.

They say the doors will remain closed here in Alabama unless another bill for a vote can be passed.

Although they maintain that the project cannot continue without electronic bingo, they're not counting the issue dead just yet.

"We are expecting it to come back up. We're not shocked about the outcome today. We're very disappointed, but we hope that the legislators can come through with a modified version of the bill that will compromise and allow the people of Alabama to vote on the issue. They've made it loud and clear that that's what they want to do and hopefully our legislators will listen to them,” says Country Crossing Spokesman Rainer.

Rainer says Ronnie Gilley continues to get offers every day to move the project out of the state.

"Mr. Gilley is continuing to get courted by several out of state interests, several states showing interest in the project as they have well before it even started in Dothan and there's a strong possibility that if we don't get clarity in the legislature about the bingo issue, we will be moving elsewhere,” says Rainer.

They're still encouraging supporters to continue to let state legislators know that they want to vote on the issue.

Bingo supporters have planned a rally featuring Reverend Jesse Jackson for 5 o'clock Thursday night at the Dothan Convention Center.

Organizers say the event will focus on jobs, justice and the opportunity for people to vote on the issue.
