Dothan City Commissioners are continuing to discuss the personnel board’s investigation of the police chief and the tax dollars being used to pay for it.
Dothan City Commissioner Pat Thomas says he's concerned about the rising cost of the personnel board's investigation of Police Chief John White and says he wants an itemized bill. Part of that cost involves a legal challenge by four Police Department employees who question the board's authority to conduct the probe.
Thomas wants to know why the board's law firm is trying to block subpoenas of Mayor Chester Sowell and private citizens. The personnel board's attorneys have accused the plaintiffs of trying to run up the cost of the investigation.
Commissioner Amos Newsome says justice isn't cheap.
At last report, the investigation bill totaled about $40,000. Another court hearing in the legal challenge of the personnel board’s investigation is set for July 15.
