Suspect in West Mobile Slaying Arrested in Florida Panhandle

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities arrested Charles McGowan near Panama City, Florida, in connection with the slaying of a woman in west Mobile.

Officer Eric Gallichant, a Mobile police spokesman, said in a news release Monday that 55-year-old Marilynn Napper was found stabbed to dead inside her home. Family members found Napper's body Thursday night.

Gallichant said McGowan, who is 37, was identified as a "person of interest" and Bay County, Florida, deputies located him Sunday.

Gallichant said McGowan and Napper were acquainted, but the motive for the slaying remains under investigation.

A spokeswoman for the Bay County Sheriff's Office said McGowan was arrested in Callaway, Florida, near Panama City at the home of a woman he had met over the Internet.

McGowan awaits extradition to Mobile.
