The Dothan post of the Veterans of Foreign wars honored a Houston County Sheriff's deputy today.

In December of 2008, Sgt. Tony Turner responded to a robbery at the hop-in in dothan.

The suspects were armed, but Sgt. Turner and others were able to arrest them without shots being fired.

Commander CJ Watson and Quartermaster Ed Pritchard presented the deputy of the year award and congratulated the rest of the sheriff's office.

"I really do appreciate their service in the community and the jobs they do. Every citizen in Houston County should be proud of the deputies working in this county they do an outstanding job under the leadership of Sheriff Andy Hughes" said Pritchard

The VFW gives out this award each year.
