FREEPORT, Fla. (AP) - A northwest Florida church has been reduced to a smoldering pile.
New Beginnings Church in Freeport burned to the ground Friday night and members are questioning what went wrong.
Firefighters were on the scene within minutes but a spokesman for Freeport Fire Rescue says the hydrant nearest to the church didn't provide adequate pressure. Another one, down the road from the church was inoperable periodically throughout the fire.
Fire officials in Freeport are promising a neighborhood-by-neighborhood check of fire hydrants.
Meantime, the state Fire Marshals Office is working to determine the cause of the blaze.
