TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The number of boating deaths in Florida is on the rise this year.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports 44 boating-related deaths statewide so far this year. That's nine higher than the same time last year.
23 of the 44 deaths were the result of drowning.
The state is urging extra caution during the July Fourth holiday, with additional boat traffic expected.
