Congressman Allen Boyd stopped in Marianna to present nearly a million dollars in grant money to Chipola Junior College. The $950,000 grant was funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
The money will be the primary source of funding for a project called "Talent Search." It's designed to help middle and high school students prepare for college. The five-year project will provide at least $190,000 each year.
It begins in a few months and will help about 700 students annually. "Talent Search" students will be recommended by faculty and counselors. About 3,500 students are expected to receive the grants in the next five years.
